Geoff Laycock is the managing director of the independent document and information management consultancy firm, Scan Data Experts. Scan Data Experts (a trading name of G Laycock Limited) provides consultancy support for a variety of customers in the public and private sectors in areas surrounding document and records management systems and strategy, large scale and specialist scanning projects and business process engineering through the implementation of information management policy. Geoff has consulted on over 300 significant projects in this area over the past 17 years commencing with his post as the senior consultant for the Higher Education Digitisation Service (HEDS), a trading unit of the University of Hertfordshire. Geoff has operated from Scan Data Experts since October 2011. Below is a brief overview of previous posts.
Technical Director – MISL Limited, September 2009 – September 2011
Responsible for large scale scanning and data entry projects for the business. Working particularly in the public sector and NHS. Responsible for designing solutions for customers’ information management needs. Responsible for completing all company tender responses, designing and managing all technical infrastructure.
CEO – Digital Content Solutions Limited, December 2008 – August 2009
Set up and managed DCS, the UK operating arm of Coral Hub Limited, then known as Vishal Information Technologies Ltd. Responsible for all UK and European Sales. Held the parallel role of Director of European Operations.
Founder and Managing Director – A Database Limited, January 2007 – November 2008
Developed the original vision for A Database and led the fundraising and development for the online service. A Database was an open source contemporary art archive holding over 28,000 individual records and representing the contents of 8 collections. Content was generated through many large scale scanning and digital capture projects. AD was run as a not-for-profit limited company and covered costs within year one.
Senior Consultant – Higher Education Digitisation Service (HEDS) June 2002 – December 2006
Directed all consultancy and production activity for the service including all sales and revenue generating activity. Selected and managed all outsourcing companies. Designed digital strategies for many large scale institutions. Managed all HEDS staff and was responsible for maintaining market share and reputation through speaking at various professional conferences and trade events. Responsible for securing all contracts from initial enquiry and managed the projects through to completion.
Photography Manager – Thomson Holidays January 2000 – May 2002
Responsible for all photographic representation in print, internet and broadcast media for the UK’s largest Travel Company. Managed a team of 35 travel photographers on assignment to all destinations. Identified the need for and implemented a companywide digital asset management system.
